The day the new OMTech Laser Engraver/Cutter arrived! (August 4th, 2021)

We couldn’t wait to receive our new OMTech MF1624-55 – 55W CO2 Laser Engraver.

In addition to the MF1624-55, we also ordered a 4-wheel rotary axis.

Heavier than it looks!
Very well packaged and protected during shipping. Everything is in perfect condition. The “curb side” delivery guy helped me get it into the garage for un-crating. Excellent service.

But first… We need to get some other things ready for Cutting and Engraving

The Air Scrubber.

The OM Tech needs an air scrubber for use indoors. We decided to make our own. Fortunately, various filters come in the same size as a standard box fan. 20″ x 20″. That is the basis of this design.
A custom 3D printed jig was necessary to speed the production of the wood frames.
The build continues…
The small fans on the right side are for the Laser’s water cooling system. That is a radiator from a CPU cooler designed for high performance gaming PCs.
The completed air scrubber.
Another view. This thing works!
It’s time to move this into the basement. We have a walk-out, so it was all down hill from here.
It made it in one piece.
Getting ready to connect the water cooler and air scrubber
For the water cooling loop, I used a 2.5 gallon with a submerged pump. The water then goes through the radiator, and always comes back at room temperature.
I used a 12v pump instead of the one included. The little 12v pump moved a lot of water, but it didn’t last long. Eventually I replaced it with the pump included with the Engraver/Cutter.
The air scrubber is connected. Later, I added a booster fan in the pipe to force more air into the scrubber. More on that later…
The first cut!

I am always making things with the Laser. I have also 3D printed a number of small upgrades to make cutting and engraving easier. Check out the other sections. The LAB – different types of equipment we have. Things – highlighting the different items we have made so far…
